About Allison Fragakis
Over the last decade, I’ve uncovered my long-lost creative dreams and explored many forms of expression: Poetry, songwriting, guitar, painting, singing, sketching, card-making, writing children’s stories, taming butterflies, gardening and leading creative writing, song and art journaling circles.
Because I buried my own creative fire for so many years, I absolutely love helping people reconnect with their exiled creative selves. In my 20’s and 30’s, I worked as a registered dietitian and wrote several nutrition books and magazine articles. I am the author of the American Dietetic Association’s Health Professionals Guide to Popular Dietary Supplements and co-author of The Jungle Effect. I also wrote a monthly nutrition column in Prevention magazine. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received a Master’s Degree in nutrition at New York University.
I am a certified Spirit Coach®. I support my clients to connect more deeply with their true selves using writing prompts, practical tools and meditation techniques to help them thrive and access more of their creative gifts.
And on random Sundays, you can find me and one of my eight vintage typewriters clickety-clacking on-the-spot, personal poems for folks at the San Rafael farmer's market. (During the pandemic, I've moved this to poem offering to Sundays on my instagram account: @writingallison1)
It is my great honor and pleasure to share my love of creativity with you!
Writing Prompt:
My journey to creativity in 7 bullet points...
I was born into a family that celebrated creativity—I filled endless journals with my stories and poetry. I was a free and fearless creative writer.
My confidence was crushed in middle school when I received a big fat, red D+ on my English paper!
After that, I stopped writing for fun, grew up, became a dietitian, wrote two research-based books on nutrition, every sentence with a footnote to a scientific fact.
For years, not one ounce of me believed I had a creative cell in my body…until one day…I talked with an intuitive counselor who asked me what the heck I was doing not saying yes to creativity.
Then, in 2007, a butterfly landed on my 5-year-old daughter’s hand when she called out to it…this miraculous moment awakened my buried desire to create. I decided to turn this experience into a story, and my path back to my creative self began!
Within a few months of the butterfly miracle, I penned my first creative piece in 28 years. I was finally reopening the door to the creativity that I had disowned so long ago. I created a storybook for my daughter, then one for my son...
Songs, stories, poetry and art start flowing out of me…and I longed to share this creative JOY with others…So I launched my first Writing Circle in 2008, and I’ve been supporting and guiding folks to connect to their creative selves ever since!
